Lino Cambi: a sacred, living place rooted in the land.
Set between the Libyan Sea and the wild hills of South Crete, Lino Cambi rests on ancient, fertile ground. This is land where olive trees have stood for centuries, where shepherds' paths still trace the same lines for centuries. South Crete has been left mostly to itself, being the more rugged and dry part of Crete. Here we say siga siga, for the beat of the earth naturally slows you down. There is an energy in the air; it's so visceral, it becomes you.
We operate from a deep place of respect for the native people of Crete, to their great tradition, being the first great civilization of Europe, to their traditions, their family values, their holidays, and their language. We respect the land that was passed from father to daughter and son for endless generations. We are honored to be part of the chain; we're custodians, we don't own the land.
This land is so fertile, it asks very little and returns so much. We yield olives and olive oil, many fruits from the orchards, vegetables, and herbs, and the salt in the sea air makes them tastier.
We choose to live in harmony with the farmed and the wild on the land, to nurture what needs nurture and what is nature, to just let be. That is why we made a conscious decision to build with humble elegance, merging with the mountain, whispering beauty, not shouting it. We have transformed the old handmade house of Agapitos the Old and his lovely wife Dymitra into four very sweet suites, each with its own en-suite, and kept their loving spirit alive.
Walking between the bright openness of the vast sea and the bucolic hills and their sense of mystery. Pathways of crushed limestone meander between carob trees and dry-stone walls, leading to quiet yoga platforms, freshwater plunge pools, and ritual rooms tucked in the nooks of the hillside.
The heart of Lino Cambi is the big pergola, which shades a vast outdoor terrace that opens to merge with the pool. The view from here is breathtaking, no, it is breath-giving. The air is tasty, the colors have a smell, the wind whispers spells: this is an enchanted world. Beneath the pool, seven terraces of olive, carob, fig, citrus, and pomegranate.
Our hills and the sea just beyond hold many secrets, and serve as home to a remarkable cast of plants and animals. Wild olive, carob, and almond stand anchored among aromatic thyme, oregano, sage, and dittany, the legendary healing herb that grows nowhere else. Eleonora's falcons, golden eagles, hoopoes, bee-eaters, and swallows share the air with butterflies and fireflies. And close to shore, loggerhead turtles come up to nest in the warm sand, while grouper, sea bream, octopus, and the rare Mediterranean monk seal move through the deeper water of the Libyan Sea.
By night, the herds of sheep walk the trails up and far, a thousand bells, delightfully adorning the dark with sound. Out and wild, hares, hedgehogs, and the occasional badger cross the path. This is a place to sit back and enjoy the Night Sky show as shooting stars zig and zag along the Milky Way, luminous and radiant above.

On the first afternoon, in the welcome atrium, you receive your initiation: a download of the Laws of the Jungle. These universal principles of survival and adaptation are the software for your stay. Through them, the masks of the ego soften, and the must within the can begins to show.

Lino Cambi is the vision of Yossi Ghinsberg — adventurer, author, and a keynote speaker who has stood on stages across the world. As a young man he was lost for three weeks, alone, in the Amazon, and walked out changed. The story became a book, and a film. Everything he has spoken about since — resilience, presence, the difference between existing and being fully alive — is built into this hillside.
The estate is that philosophy made physical: the cold plunge at first light, the climb to the ridge, the long table that runs late. If his words have ever moved you from a stage, this is where they live — off it.
